The Hyannis Roadrunners was founded in order to provide coaching instruction to beginning runners. In 1999, Kevin Petrovek created and offered a 12-week walk/run program which was designed to help participants train to the point where they could run 3 miles virtually non-stop. The program was a success. Over 50 participants completed the Centerville Old Home Week 3-miler at the end of the 12 weeks.

Subsequently, we offered additional running programs in order to help people continue to develop their fitness. Eventually, there were several levels that began to accomodate and attract runners from a wide variety of abilities and fitness levels. We began offering coaching and workouts to everyone from walkers to marathoners.

Eventually, we decided to form an official club – namely, the Hyannis Roadrunners.

Currently, we conduct 2 separate 12-week sessions throughout the year:

  1. Spring/Summer Session – usually mid-May through the beginning of August – meets at Barnstable High School.
  2. Fall Session – usually last week in August through mid-November – meets at Barnstable High School.

The rest of the year, there is an open group run starting from Hanlon’s Shoes, Main St, Hyannis.
